Our Lord Jesus elevated the bond of marriage to a supernatural sacrament.  As He said in the Gospels: "What God has joined together let no one put asunder."  In celebrating the sacrament couples are given the grace to love one another as Jesus loved the Church and a permanent bond is established.  Such a bond is only broken by the death of a spouse.  This sacrament is preceeded by a minimum preparation period of six months.  During this time the engaged couple, following the Witness to Love marriage prep program, chooses a mentor couple from the parish who walks with them towards their wedding day.
